From Which Medical Device
The Stryker ADM X3 is a bipolar or “mobile bearing” acetabular system, launched in early 2010 and comprising an X3 polyethylene intermediate bearing, which lies between the (ceramic) head and the shell. The shell is cutaway anteriorly with the intention of reducing the risk of psoas tendon impingement, and the geometry of the design is intended to reduce the risk of dislocation.
The interposition of a polyethylene liner has been described before (eg the Saturne Tripolar hip by Amplitude), but the use of X3 polyethylene appears to be novel.
The device is aimed at surgeons and patients looking for alternatives to metal on metal large diameter articulations.
There are no published results at the present time.
Ongoing clinical trials of the ADM hip can be found here.
