Description

From Which Medical Device

The Trabecular Metal Augment and Restrictors from Zimmer are a selection of structural augments intended for revision or difficult primary hip reconstructions associated with significant bone loss.  This is part of the Zimmer TMARS (Trabecular Metal Acetabular Revision System).

As with other Trabecular Metal components, high frictional resistance, low stiffness and a porous structure contribute to primary stability and integration into bone.  These implants come in a variety of sizes to match most defects. Bone graft can be placed inside the augment, and once in place, a socket can be cemented into the newly reconstructed socket.
In a series of 24 patients from Borland et al (1), there was a low failure rate at 5 years, with one of 24 patients requiring revision.
