Acetabular components - uncemented
From Which Medical Device
The R3 Acetabular System from Smith and Nephew includes no-hole and mulit-hole options, constrained liners and large bearing options. The latter include XLPE, Oxinium, CoCr, and Biolox. Liners are designed to sit flush with the rim of the shell, reducing the potential for impingement. The locking system allows repositioning of the liner. The R3 system is based on the Reflection socket.
The shell has a STIKTITE porous coating designed to enhance fixation and promote bony ingrowth.
In the National Joint Registry report of England and Wales the R3 system was used in 2% of primary hip implantations in 2011, and had an ODEP pre-entry rating.
