From Which Medical Device
The DeltaMotion bearing from Finsbury is a large ceramic-on-ceramic bearing system. Femoral head diameters range from 32 to 48mm, shell sizes from 42 to 66mm. This system is said to be suited to patients with smaller acetabulae who would benefit from a large diameter bearing. The ceramic acetabular component is preassembled into a titanium shell. The shell has anti-rotation fins, and the implanted surface of the shell is HA coated.
The ceramic of the bearing is Biolox ® delta, which is an alumina matrix composite developed by CeramTec AG. This is stronger than Biolox ® forte, and therefore allows the manufacture of thinner acetabular components. A titanium sleeve sits between the ceramic head and the neck of the femoral component. Sleeves have a 12/14 taper intended for use with the Adept, Finsbury Type C Femoral Stem and the Finsbury Type S femoral stems, all of which are uncemented.
The device was first used in 2008 and is listed as pre-entry by ODEP.
Finsbury Orthopaedics was acquired by Depuy in 2009.
