Description

From Which Medical Device

The Visionaire Patient Matched Instrumentation system is Smith and Nephew’s customised jig system for knee replacement. It uses MRI and X-ray data to determine preoperatively the most appropriate alignment for an individual’s knee arthroplasty. The system is compatible with the Legion Primary, the Journey bi-cruciate knee replacement and the Genesis II knee replacement systems (http://www.whichmedicaldevice.com/by-manufacturer/89/169/genesis-ii-total-knee-system). In common with other systems, benefits include the fact that sterilisation of standard instrument trays is not required and the femoral canal does not have to be instrumented. The customised blocks are manufactured by Smith and Nephew. MRI based planning means that jig seating is based on cartilage or bone topography, but menisci are removed before seating.

The system was launched in 2009. We are not aware of published results, but a clinical trial is ongoing.
