The Amplatzer Vascular Plug 4 is delivered through a 0.038 diagnostic catheter which increases the options for using these types of vascular occluders. The type 4 plug effectively has 4 layers of occluding mesh. The advantage of this type of plug is its flexibility and small profile allowing it to reach more distal vessels than the type 2 plug. The plug can block vessels that normally require several coils and can be repositioned prior to final release.
The Plug 4 ranges in size from 4 to 8mm. The plug should be oversized by 30 to 50%
The Plug 4 is MR compatible up to 3T (in a static field)
This plug does not as yet have FDA approval.
The Amplatzer Vascular Plug 4 has received European CE Mark approval.
