From Which Medical Device
The Columbus Total Knee System from Braun comprises a suite of implants including cruciate sparing, cruciate retaining, fixed or rotating platform and revision systems. The implants come cemented or cementless (coated with Plasmapore®). The trochlea is said to support natural patellar tracking. It is also available in Braun's AS (Advanced Surface) Coating, for metal sensitivity, and which features a ceramic surface layer.
The femoral component has a 3 degree anterior taper to avoid notching, and a J-curve multiple radius geometry.
In the 2011 National Joint Registry Report, the Columbus knee was implanted 724 times (<1%).
The device had the highest 5 year revision rate at 2.95% (2.14% to 4.07%).
