This short video shows my technique for insertion of the Medcomp Dignity venous port. The technique is virtually identical for other ports.
I dont tend to suture the port in place unless the pocket seems lax and I think there is a possibility that the port will rotate.

i like the method of placing the port first then estimating the length after catheter has been tunnelled to the venotomy. i'm gonna suggest this on my next rotation, saves a lot of time and still gives good length control.
