From Which Medical Device
The Balance Microplasty hip stem is a shorter version of the Balance uncemented stem from Biomet. The stem is collarless and porous coated. It is a standard 80mm in length, and the design is intended to fill the proximal metaphysis and provide immediate three point fixation. The stem geometry also includes 5 degrees of anteversion. The term Microplasty is used by Biomet to describe minimally invasive approaches to joint replacement. The device received FDA approval in 2005. We are not aware of published results, but a clinical trial is ongoing.
Biomet also offer the Taperloc hip stem.
