From Which Medical Device
The SMF Short Modular Femoral Hip System from Smith and Nephew is an uncemented titanium stem, approximately 20% shorter than conventional stems. It has a proprietary high-friction porous (mean pore size 200 microns) coating known as Stiktite ™ and has a cobalt-chrome modular neck design. The shorter stem is intended to allow implantation through minimally invasive or anterior approaches.
RSA studies demonstrated similar early stability to the Synergy stem, although we couldn’t find the paper or the journal on Pubmed (1). However, the trial is still recruiting. There are no other published results to our knowledge at this time
