The Memokath 051 Ureter stent is designed for use in treatment for malignant or benign ureteric strictures.
According to the manufacturer, the stent is easy and simple to insert and remove, and, since it is not prone to encrustation or tissue in-growth, stent does not need to be frequently changed. The procedure usually takes about 40-50 minutes and brings immediate relief.
The device is CE marked.
We have had varying success with this stent. There is no doubt it has a good large lumen and is easy to insert. Migration has been an issue but we think this tends to occur when the stricture has resolved and the stent becomes more free to move.
We use this stent mainly in benign strictures, such as uretero-ilial anastamotic strictures and in reconstructed ureters post gynae surgical disasters!
Alternatives are the Uventa and Allium stents (see below).
