The CFP (Collum Femoris Preserving) stem is a collared, curved short stem device designed for minimally invasive implantation. It is a modification of the stem originally designed by Pipino in the early 1980s, the design aims of which included rotational stability by triplanar fixation, preservation of bone stock, primary fixation by the neck cortex and impacted metaphyseal bone, physiological loading, and elasticity of the bone-prosthesis construct. The CFP stem incorporates the Pipino design geometry, is made from titanium and has a hydroxyapatite coating on the proximal two thirds.  The surface has several grooves for stability. It comes in a range of curvatures and lengths from 95-135mm.

The manufacturers report 25,000 implantations since 2000, but there are few (3 in 2009) in the UK National Joint Registry.  Mid term results include a 99% survival at a mean of 74 months, in a study of 155 patients (Briem et al) and 98% at 6.1 years in a study of 47 patients (Nowak et al).  An RSA study showed very low levels of migration and subsidence at 2 years (Röhrl et al).
