Ankle replacement
From Which Medical Device
The Zenith Total Ankle Replacement from Corin is a third generation mobile bearing total ankle replacement. The device is made from a titanium alloy (Ti-6AL-V) and has a titanium nitride coating in order to reduce wear. The bone contact surface comprises a titanium plasma-sprayed layer on which is deposited a thin layer of calcium phosphate.
Other features of the geometry include a tibial component with a flat distal surface and a central stem, and a polyethylene component which is congruent with a deep sulcus on the talus.
Although this device is based on long-established principles in ankle design, we are not aware of long term results. In the 2012 report of the National Joint Registry of England and Wales, the Zenith was the second most frequently used ankle replacement.
