The OrthoGlide interposition arthroplasty for the knee comprises a dished, disc-shaped cobalt chrome component which is inserted into the medial compartment of the knee in a minimally invasive fashion. The device has a lip which locks over the posterior aspect of the tibial plateau.
The implant was developed by Advanced Bio-Surfaces, a University of Minnesota spin-off company, which in 2010 was acquired by Memometal technologies.
The device is CE marked and has FDA approval.
The UniSpacer by Sulzer is a similar device.
There are no published series for this device, although data relating to 92 patients were presented in 2007 at the American College of Rheumatology’s annual meeting. 9 patients had undergone conversion to unicondylar or total knee arthroplasty at 2 years after surgery.
