From Which Medical Device
This is a “fourth” generation ankle design, which is a modification of the Agility ® ankle replacement and includes a redesigned winged talar component, the ability to upsize the talar component one size compared with the tibial component and front-loading polyethylene.
The tibial component is made of titanium, has a wide base and is an unusual design as the tibial component bridges the fused tibiotalar syndesmosis. The talar component is manufactured from cobalt chrome.
The recommended surgical technique includes implanting the device with the ankle in distraction.
The original Agility ankle was the best selling ankle replacment in the USA. Although there are longer term results for the Agility ankle, we are not aware of published results for this modified design.
Notes
In January 2012, Depuy stopped selling a number of custom medical devices including the Agility LP Total Ankle System in response to a warning letter from the FDA. Find out more here.
