Google Glass is a pair of glasses with an integrated computer that allows the user to see a head up display (HUD). The Glass can be controlled with voice commands or a side touchpad, it also incorporates an externally facing camera to record pictures and video. When this all comes together, the wearer is able to experience “augmented reality” where visual content can be overlaid into an existing line of sight.

The image output from an image intensifier, ultrasound machine or CT scanner could be sent live to the Glass to give the operator a true head up display image of the procedure without having to look around at the equipment monitors.

The Glass could also be used to give a true 'point of view' live video of procedures being performed by an expert to teach students or by a trainee who can then be monitored remotely by the expert/mentor.

Drs Haslam and Mafeld have discussed the potential applications for Glass in Interventional Radiology in a recent Editorial.
