Description

From Which Medical Device

The kneehab XP device is a garment-based neuromuscular electrical stimulation device designed to stimulate the quadriceps and improve rehabilitation. The device uses a patented "multipath" technology which is designed to recruit maximum muscle fibres whilst minimising fatigue.

A study involving the use of the device by patients before knee replacement demonstrated a 28% increase in quadriceps strength before surgery and improved muscle strength and return to normal activities postoperatively (Walls et al 2010).

In a study of the device after ACL reconstruction, the device was used 3 times a day, 5 days a week for 12 weeks and demonstrated better strength of the quadriceps and faster recovery compared with a traditional (Polystim) device or control groups (Feil at al 2011).
