Intraoperative ligament balancing
From Which Medical Device
The VERASENSE system from Orthosensor is an intraoperative device designed to help with soft tissue balancing in primary knee arthroplasty. It permits intraoperative assessment of the load on the knee during trialling of the implant, which is communicated wirelessly to a customisable interface on a computer screen. The VERASENSE system is available for the Biomet Vanguard knee, the Smith and Nephew Journey II knee (from Summer 2014), the Stryker Triathlon knee and the Zimmer NexGen knee system.
Gustke at al (J Arthroplasty) have demonstrated improved KSS and WOMAC scores when the device is used.
The device nominator said, “The Orthosensor Knee Balancer is revolutionising total knee arthroplasty.”
